Subject: For the North American Furniture Collector
Subject: For the North American Furniture Collector
Unlike most, which cut off in disdain after the French Empire, if not at Louis XVI, this 1911 book is willing to move forward into the mid-1800s, expecially in musical furniture like glass harmonicas and pianos, or in clocks. Like most, it begins in the 1600s, where we start having survivors in any number, and also because of its New World emphasis.
Organization is by kind of furniture (chair, table, chest) not by period. For some reason every chapter begins with a picture of some looking glass frame. Most notable for including something besides the basic types, like the spinets and pianos.
